Support for Local Advocacy Efforts
The power to advocate on behalf of our students is empowering, but the responsibility can be daunting. Where do you start? NEA created tools to help you organize and advocate on behalf of students.
This collection of sample school board resolutions, policy statements, and contract language is aligned with each element of our Great Public Schools framework. The research-based Great Public Schools framework is comprised of hundreds of indicators that create an infrastructure for excellent public schools. Connecting policy goals to those indicators will help ensure that you identify solutions that specifically address the needs of your students and schools.
Today’s educators have a tremendous opportunity to place themselves in the center of efforts to ensure that every student in America attends a great public school. The Advocating for Great Public Schools handbook equips you with the knowledge and tools to transform your workplace and community by developing leadership skills. The exercises in this Guide will assist you in developing and implementing an advocacy plan, which may include policy goals such as implementing sample legislation or contract language like those in Raising Your Voice.

When the Every Student Succeeds Act (“ESSA”) passed, NEA created these guides to provide substantive information about how ESSA may impact students, classrooms, and communities. Each guide provides an opportunity for educators elevate their voice via an ESSA-related topic for conversation.
